Privacy Policy
How your personal information is collected, used, and protected.
Last Updated: January 2026
Dr. Ranjika Lalani Perera ("we", "us", "our", or the "Researcher") is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you visit our academic website.
Summary: This is a static academic website. Most data you enter (such as blog comments) is stored only in your own browser and is never sent to any server. The only data we receive directly from you is what you voluntarily send via email.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Name: When you enter it in a blog comment form. Stored only in your own browser's
localStorage— not on any server. - Email Address: The comment form asks for an email to deter spam, but it is intentionally not stored or displayed. If you email us directly, we will receive your email address and message.
- Message Content: Any information you voluntarily include in an email sent to the address listed on the Contact page.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
This website does not run any analytics, tracking, or advertising scripts by default. No IP addresses, browser fingerprints, or page-visit logs are collected by the site's own code.
If Google Analytics is later enabled on this site, standard analytics data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be collected. You will be informed here if that changes.
1.3 Comments
- Blog comments are stored exclusively in your own browser using
localStorage. They are not transmitted to any server, not visible to other visitors, and not moderated by us. - The comment form requests a name and email to discourage spam. The email is discarded after submission and never stored.
- You can delete your comments at any time by clearing your browser's site data (see Cookie Policy).
2. How We Use Your Information
We collect and use your personal data SOLELY for the following purposes:
- To respond to inquiries: To reply to your emails, questions, and research requests.
- Academic research and record-keeping: If you are a research collaborator or correspondent, we may retain your correspondence for academic record-keeping.
- To protect security: To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or malicious activity directed at this site.
- To comply with legal obligations: Where required by law.
🔒 Important Note:
- We DO NOT share your data with any third party.
- We DO NOT use your data for business, marketing, or promotional purposes.
- We DO NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- Data is collected solely for research and record-keeping purposes.
3. Cookies and Local Storage
The site's own code does not set cookies. It uses your browser's localStorage to remember blog comments locally on your device.
Third-party cookies may appear only if you interact with embedded content (e.g., Facebook video players on the Media page) or if Google Analytics is enabled. You can control all cookies through your browser settings.
For full details, see our Cookie Policy.
4. How We Share Your Information
✅ We DO NOT share your personal information with any third party.
Your data is used exclusively for research and record-keeping purposes. We do not engage in any business, marketing, or promotional activities using your personal data.
Limited exceptions where disclosure may be required:
- Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.
- Protection of rights: To protect the rights, property, or safety of the Researcher, users, or others.
- With your consent: When you have given us explicit permission.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect any data we hold:
- HTTPS encryption: All data transmitted between your browser and this website is encrypted using SSL/TLS.
- Minimal data collection: The site collects as little data as possible — most user input stays in your own browser.
- No third-party analytics by default: Fewer parties have access to any data about you.
While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary:
- Blog comments: Stored only in your own browser and retained until you clear it. We do not hold copies.
- Email correspondence: Retained for as long as needed to address your inquiry and, for research collaborators, as required for academic record-keeping.
7. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (e.g., your email correspondence with us).
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data from our records.
- Right to restrict processing: Request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time.
- Right to clear local comment data: Delete comments stored in your browser at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.
